Latvia Retail Trade Contracts in April

Latvia's retail sales contracted by 0.2% year-on-year in April, after an upwardly revised 3.4% increase in the prior month, figures from the Riga-based Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) showed on Wednesday.

Sales fell for food, beverages & tobacco (-2.3%), household equipment (-4.3%) and watches & jewelry (-8.9%).

In contrast, sales were up for automotive fuel (+2.4%), clothing, footwear & leather goods (+16.6%) and cosmetic & toilet articles (+10.7%).

On a month-on-month basis, retail trade fell by 3.3% in April, following an upwardly revised 1.2% increase in the previous month.
