Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
Newspaper organizations across the globe have struggled to find a business model that allows them to continue to excel, without compromising their ability to perform. Most recently, the likes of Wikipedia, the Guardian in the United Kingdom, and Index in Hungary have experimented with the idea of involving their most important stakeholders, their readers.
We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
As a very basic “feel good” return, you will know you are helping us fund our drive for agenda-free reporting, something that is close to unique in Hungary. More than that, it means you are helping to safeguard our journalistic freedom and long-term sustainability. And your contributions will mean we do not need to employ a pay wall.
Readers can still choose to simply take out a regular subscription to the BBJ, of course, or buy a copy whenever they see one on the newsstands, and we are grateful every time they do so, but become a supporter and you are more invested in the future of your newspaper.
Everyone starts somewhere, and for journalists, that means a cub reporter. Even Pulitzer prize winners (an award named for a Hungarian-born American newspaper publisher) had to start as a cub, so what better name for our introductory supporter’s level?
Cub supporters pay anywhere between EUR 1-50 per issue/month/year. You chose how much and how often when you get to the payment page.
Newspapers grow by providing great content, whether that is editorial or advertising, by publishing information that is factual and useful. Without that, no newspaper can last. But you also require a little magic from the circulation department. The generous backing of our circulation level supporters helps the BBJ grow and improve.
Circulation supporters pay EUR 100 and, in return, get a year's subscription to the print version of the newspaper, delivered every two weeks to the address of your choice and full of the most important and useful business news from Hungary. You also gain the satisfaction of knowing that your support is helping us grow. Please note that, if you are supporting from outside Hungary's borders, delivery charges will need to be added.
The editorial boardroom is where the tone and direction of any newspaper is set. Who is the paper for? What values does it stand for? How seriously does it take its commitments? At its best, the boardroom is the guardian of a newspaper’s conscience.
Boardroom supporters pay EUR 2,000 per year and, quite literally, get a seat at the high table. In return for your generous support, we will give you two tickets to our annual invitation only black tie BBJ Expat CEO Gala Dinner. It is your chance to meet with some of the sharpest minds and best leaders in Budapest's business and diplomatic circles.
However much you can give, we thank all of you for your support.
Robin Marshall
Please note that your support of the BBJ’s journalism does not constitute a charitable donation, as such your contribution is not eligible for a tax-deduction.
