Hungary Current Account Surplus at EUR 1.86 bln in Q1

Hungary had a EUR 1.86 billion current account surplus in Q1, following a EUR 594m deficit in last quarter of 2023, quarterly data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) on Wednesday show.

In Q1 the trade surplus reached EUR 3.411 bln, the balance of a EUR 1.262 bln surplus in trade of goods and a EUR 2.148 bln surplus in trade of services.

The primary income balance showed a deficit of EUR 1.292 bln, as investors repatriated EUR 1.643 bln from direct investments.

The balance of European Union transfers came to EUR 234 mln for the quarter.

Hungary's seasonally-adjusted net lending -- the combined balance of the current and capital accounts -- came to EUR 598 mln in Q1, equivalent to 1.2% of quarterly GDP. Unadjusted data show a net financing capacity of EUR 2.146 bln.
