The one‑hectare central area will feature 13,000 tropical and subtropical plants, rare species such as hulmans and critically endangered Bali starlings, and a 14.5‑meter waterfall.
The project is part of a net HUF 350 million development, including HUF 300 mln from the zoo’s 2025 operating revenue and HUF 50 mln from the Budapest Municipality.
Last year, the zoo welcomed 1,069,455 visitors, with an additional 200,000 at the Margaret Island Mini Zoo, and it expects the new attraction to strengthen attendance further.
Plans include relocating elephants and sea lions to new Biodome habitats, though timelines depend on technical and financial conditions.
The aquarium component remains the most costly phase, with monthly operating expenses in the millions of forints, and it is likely to be completed last.
