The service invests customers’ money in a short-term bond fund managed by Hungary’s Hold Alapkezelő. Forints join euros, pounds sterling and U.S. dollars among the currencies supported by Wise’s investment feature in Hungary.

The quoted return is based on the fund’s 30-day performance as of Oct. 16, 2026. Returns are not guaranteed, and invested capital is at risk.

Customers can activate the feature for their forint balance within their Wise account. Once activated, they can continue sending and spending money, with changes in investment value recorded on business days and visible in their account.

The underlying fund invests primarily in Hungarian government securities and other government or central bank instruments.

“Customers in Hungary have already placed their trust in Wise to help them hold, transfer and spend their money easily and transparently. Now we are also giving them the opportunity to earn a return on their forint balance without locking it away. This is another step toward making Wise more useful in everyday life, whether managing expenses at home or spending abroad,” said Gergő Horányi, product development lead at Wise.

Survey Highlights Demand for Accessible Savings

A survey commissioned by Wise found that 56% of Hungarian adults keep money in non-interest-bearing accounts.

Among those respondents, 41% said they did so because they wanted immediate access to their money. The same proportion expected to need it soon for bills or everyday expenses.

Low or zero monthly fees were the most frequently cited essential feature of an everyday financial account, selected by 58% of respondents. Automatic interest on balances followed at 39%.

For money they might need within the next 12 months, 39% of respondents were willing to wait no longer than the same day to access it.

Pulzus conducted the research between Sept. 30 and Oct. 13 using a weighted sample of 1,000 Hungarian adults.

Partnership With Hold

“Together, we are making it easier for people in Hungary to earn a return on their forint savings while keeping their money readily accessible. Hold Alapkezelő manages the underlying investment fund, making our local investment expertise available to Wise customers as well. This solution offers people who value flexibility a straightforward way to start investing,” said Péter Fáykiss, international business development director at Hold Alapkezelő.

The launch follows other additions to Wise’s Hungarian offering, including Qvik payment requests for topping up forint balances and integrations with Számlázz.hu and Billingo for business customers.

Wise said it served approximately 19 million individuals and businesses in its 2026 financial year, processing more than EUR 200 bln in cross-border transactions.
