Wizz Air said regulatory changes introduced this year threaten the sustainability of its base and called on Serbian authorities to provide fair, transparent and nondiscriminatory operating conditions.
According to the company, the European Commission is examining whether the amendments comply with Serbia’s obligations under the European Common Aviation Area framework.
Wizz Air said it has invested hundreds of millions of euros in Serbia over more than 15 years and carried more than 14 million passengers. This summer alone, it transported over 700,000 passengers on more than 3,000 flights.
The airline directly employs more than 200 people in the country and says its operations support thousands of additional jobs. It warned that the dispute affects competition, affordable travel, Ser bia’s European connections, and international investor confidence.
