The airline said its hedging strategy and fuel-efficient fleet would help cushion higher fuel costs following a record summer.

The carrier has hedged 80% of its fuel needs for the coming six months at USD 800 per metric ton, compared with a current market price of around USD 1,500. It has also hedged 45% of its requirements for April-September 2027 at approximately USD 900 per metric ton.

Airbus A321neo aircraft account for more than 75% of its fleet and consume 20% less fuel than previous-generation aircraft, according to the airline.

“High fuel prices affect us too, but not every airline is in the same position. Wizz Air operates a modern fleet and uses a forward-looking hedging strategy. We estimate that the cost pressure arising from current fuel prices could be around 5%-10% for us, while it could be significantly higher for other industry players. We aim to mitigate the impact of costs as much as possible and pass on as little of the burden as possible to our passengers,” said József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air.

Record Summer in Hungary and Across the Network

Wizz Air carried 23.8 million passengers between June and August, up 27% from the same period in 2025. It operated 112,000 flights, an increase of 24%, and set a daily record of 1,288 flights.

August alone brought a record 8.4 million passengers.

In Hungary, summer passenger numbers rose 30% year-on-year to 2.6 million, with the airline operating 12,000 flights between June and August. Its Hungarian services have recorded a flight completion rate of 99.74% since the beginning of 2026.

“Over the past few years, we have significantly improved our operational efficiency, and this is reflected not only in our modern fleet but also in our performance. During the peak summer period, we served more than 23 million passengers while setting a new daily flight record. We have carefully planned the winter schedule, are aligning capacity with demand and continue to invest in markets where we see opportunities for growth,” Váradi added.

New Budapest Routes for Winter

The winter schedule includes new routes from Budapest to Oslo and Marsa Alam, alongside increased frequencies to Bilbao, Tenerife, Giza, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Keflavík and Thessaloniki.

Wizz Air is offering 9.55 million seats in Hungary in 2026, up 17% from 2025.

Its longer-term targets remain unchanged: a fleet of 335 aircraft and annual passenger traffic of 127 million by 2030.
