With this investment, the combined indoor and outdoor capacity of Ghibli’s Debrecen and Ebes facilities now exceeds 55,000 sqm. The development also allows for a potential on-site expansion of up to an additional 16,500 sqm.
The new facility was built in accordance with the highest industry standards. The 11,500 sqm warehouse space is complemented by offices and social facilities, while a row-type heavy-duty racking system supports both palletized and block storage. The industrial flooring, with a load-bearing capacity of 5 tons per sqm, makes the hall suitable for handling heavy goods safely.
Strategic Location Supporting Intermodality
Thanks to its location, the center connects to both domestic and international supply chains. It has direct access to the M35 motorway, Highways 4 and 47, and Debrecen International Airport. The nearby Xanga Rail Terminal’s industrial rail connection enables the integration of rail freight, supporting more sustainable logistics operations. On-site export-import and transit customs administration significantly accelerates international trade processes.
Zoltán Szabó, managing director of the Ghibli Group, emphasized, “Debrecen and its region are developing into a distribution logistics hub capable of serving not only the city but also neighboring countries. The region has outstanding logistical potential, and our goal is to be active shapers of this development.”
In July 2022, Weerts Logistics Park HUR One Ltd. purchased a more than 12-hectare site in Ebes from the local municipality. The company committed to completing an investment including a building of at least 50,000 sqm by December 31, 2026.
The logistics center built in Ebes, near Debrecen, is the first speculative investment in eastern Hungary carried out by a foreign investor without pre-leased tenants and at its own risk. The project was developed on a more than 122,000 sqm site in a strategic location near Debrecen International Airport, the BMW plant and the M35 motorway.
In her welcoming remarks, Mária Karsai Szabóné, Mayor of Ebes, emphasized: “For Ebes, every investment that creates jobs, strengthens the local economy and contributes to the long-term development of the municipality is of key importance. The warehouse center of Ghibli Ltd. and Weerts Logistics Parks is such a forward-looking development, one that we can be proud of.”
Roundtable on the Future of Logistics: Competitiveness, Labor and Sustainability
The inauguration also served as a professional forum. At the regional roundtable discussion, Mária Karsai Szabóné, Mayor of Ebes; Ernő Hadnagy, managing director of WLP; Zoltán Szabó, managing director of the Ghibli Group; and Tamás Fábián, Strategy and Business Development director of the Ghibli Group, analyzed the competitiveness of the eastern region, the investment environment and labor market challenges.
At the intermodal roundtable, Gyula Horváth, Business Development Manager at GYSEV Cargo; Tamás Bicsak, Overseas Freight director at Ghibli; Gábor Márta, Rail Freight director at Ghibli; and Ruben Bántó, sales director at WLP, discussed the opportunities in combining road and rail transport as well as the future of sustainable logistics.
Global Presence, Local Value Creation
In Hungary, over the past six years, WLP has built more than 200,000 sqm of modern logistics facilities, directly providing jobs for more than 1,000 people and indirectly creating employment for approximately 4,000 others. Its developments now host more than 150 Hungarian companies, strengthening the firm’s prominent role on both the domestic and international logistics map.
In his welcoming remarks, Ernő Hadnagy, Managing Director of WLP, highlighted, “We believed in the region and made a bold commitment — and Ghibli joined us as our first partner here, sharing this vision. Today we stand in a modern, environmentally friendly logistics center with intermodal capabilities, the first phase of which has already been filled by our partner. A shared way of thinking has begun — we want to grow together and create new opportunities for both the community and our partners. Ebes also plays a key role in our joint work, as it welcomed us and sets an example of how to seize the region’s development opportunities. Without the support of the municipality and the local community, the commitment of our team, and Ghibli’s partnership, we would not be here today. Today proves once again that only through cooperation can we create truly valuable and lasting results. I believe that based on our shared values, moving forward hand in hand, we will continue building this future together.”
