According to a report by news wire MTI, Hungarian investigators said Wednesday that the FBI had contacted them in mid-September about a user who had posted violent, life-threatening messages on an online platform. A U.S. company working in artificial intelligence had brought the case to the FBI’s attention.

According to documents provided to Hungarian investigators, a user of one of the company’s products had made statements about terrorist acts during conversations with a chatbot. Police said the messages included threats of violence against groups and individuals, as well as discussions about preparations for such acts.

Officers detained the teenager at his home Tuesday and searched the property, seizing his mobile phone and computer.

The company and chatbot involved were not identified in the statement.
