Orbán, Pompeo discuss U.S.-Hungary relationship on phone

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke by telephone on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of State revealed, according to a report by Hungarian news agency MTI.

"Secretary Michael R. Pompeo spoke with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán by phone today. Secretary Pompeo and Prime Minister Orbán discussed the importance of strengthening the U.S.-Hungary strategic relationship, including bilateral defense ties," a spokesperson for the department said.

Orbánʼs press chief Bertalan Havasi said earlier Tuesday that the sides had discussed current matters of political and economic importance between Hungary and the U.S. They also expressed their intention to discuss a face-to-face meeting in the near future.
