The Kúria, Hungary's supreme court, has upheld the decision of the National Election Committee, meaning the Budapest mayoral race will not be repeated and Gergely Karácsony will remain lord mayor of the capital, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Karácsony won the contest held on June 9 by 41 votes, after a recount of invalid ballots.

He submitted a motion for a repeat election on June 17.

"Naturally, I accept the decision of the independent Hungarian court," Karácsony said in a Facebook post.
