Péter Álmos, MOK’s head, said people were no longer confident they could access care if needed, adding that the standard of health care overall was deteriorating and had already fallen below acceptable levels.

He called for more resources for on-call services and added that the system of family GPs needed saving. Almos put the cost to the budget of raising the standard of care at an annual HUF 500 billion (EUR 1.3 bln).

Peter Srádi, MOSZ’s head, cited poor management of health care and decades of stagnation in the sector. “However much the country and the economy have developed, health care always lags behind,” he said.
