Last year, 3.9 million internet users visited online Hungarian media every day, an analysis by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) shows.

The number fell from 4.2 million in 2022.

Hungarian internet users opened 64 million pages a day, on average, each reading around 16 news items, weather reports or entertainment features.

Hungarian websites got almost 23bn clicks last year, down from 26bn in 2022 as people browsed less and, to a lesser degree, migrated to foreign websites.

Including applications and foreign websites, NMHH estimated that 5.5 million Hungarians visited media sites each day.

Sites focused on local news got about 1.5 million page views a day.

Big international news stories that were followed closely by Hungarian internet users included the earthquake in Türkiye and Syria, the Wagner Group rebellion, and the Israeli-Palestinian war.
