Under a European Union decree taking effect as of the end of September, Hungarians who are planning to install new boilers will only be able to obtain licenses for the gas condensing type, István Bart, the head of the Hungarian Energy Efficiency Institute said yesterday.

Currently there are approximately 2.5 million gas heaters in the country, according to gas industry association head Tamás Versits. He said that between 40,000 and 50,000 new gas heaters are sold each year, and 40% of these are condensing boilers.
