MNB: Hungary’s c/a surplus reaches €546 mln in January

Current-account surplus in Hungary reached €545.6 mln in January, while the country’s external financing capacity – calculated as a combined surplus of the current and capital accounts – came to a preliminary €786.8 mln, the monthly balance of payment data published by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) revealed.

Based on the financial account, the January external financing capacity was €377.4 mln, the report said. Net transfers from the European Union reached €305.9 mln as a balance of €420.6 mln inflows and €114.7 mln in the first month of the year, the accrual-based figures show.

The MNB began releasing the monthly balance of payments report in July 2014. The monthly data include estimates and are available on the website only until the publication of the respective quarterly figures.
