Hungarian farmers grow more watermelons
Hungarian farmers are now producing watermelons on 6,000 hectares compared to 4,700 in 2011, minister of agriculture Sándor Fazekas said in Budapest today.
The minister added that 40-50% of the watermelons grown in Hungary are exported.
Head of fruit and vegetable growers' association FruitVeb Béla Martonffy said the aim is for Hungary to reconquer its markets and become the world's third-biggest exporter of watermelons as it was in the early 2000s.
