Hungary prepared a draft of its NECP in the summer of 2023 and will submit the final version in the autumn of 2024, after getting feedback from the European Commission, state news wire MTI writes.
The plan aims to strengthen Hungary’s energy sovereignty and security of supply while preserving the results of the regulated utility price scheme for households and implementing the green transition.
Hungary aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% from 1990 levels by 2030, according to the NECP. It targets a drop in energy consumption to 750 PJ, down from 785 PJ earlier. It seeks to boost the share of renewables in its energy mix to 29%.
Spending to achieve the goals in the NECP is expected to come to “several thousand billion forints”, the ministry said.
The public can weigh in on the impact study until September 22.
