Environment Minister Gábor Fodor and Municipality Minister Gordon Bajnai jointly presented the 32 new tenders after the opening of the 7th Ökotech International Environmental and Communal Expo in the Budapest Fair Center.
The first environmental tenders in the Environment and Energy Operative Program (KEOP) of the New Hungary Development Plan (ÚMFT) were called in September with funding worth a combined Ft 341.56 billion. The next ones will start in January 2008. KEOP will provide funding of Ft 1,332 billion over the EU budgetary period of 2007–2013. The amount of the KEOP subsidies equals the 16.7% of the ÚMFT resources.
All the environmental projects realized within the frame of the MFT during the past three years totaled as little as Ft 151 billion, said Bajnai. The current tenders cover the issues of flood-management, extending drinking water supplies, waste and sewage management, damage recovery, recultivation, as well as the improvement of environment-awareness, listed Fodor. The tenders are primarily targeted at public organizations, NGOs and municipalities, he added. (Gazdasági Rádió, Napi Gazdaság)
