According to a statement from his ministry, responding to a question at a press conference with Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) secretary-general Christian Hafenecker, Szijjártó noted that Russia’s deputy prime minister for energy affairs contacted him a few weeks ago.

He warned the Hungarian minister about an impending humanitarian crisis in Transnistria. where supply issues threatened the energy needs of hundreds of thousands during winter.

He explained that discussions with Hungarian-owned energy companies and the Moldovan foreign minister resulted in a Hungarian company agreeing to deliver natural gas to the region.

“We have managed to prevent a very serious humanitarian crisis,” Szijjártó added.
