Exports rose by 3.1% to approximately €7 bln and imports were up by 4.2% at about €6.5 bln. Roughly 79% of Hungary’s exports were distributed among other European Union countries in February and 75% of the country’s imports came from the EU.
In January-April 2014, the trade surplus came to €2.5 bln, up €251 mln as compared to the same period last year. Exports rose 4.6% to almost €28 bln and imports were up 4.0% at €25.3 0bln.
The KSH is scheduled to publish a second reading of the data on July 3. Bálint Török, an analyst with Buda-Cash Brókerház, said however the expectations for April trade surplus were not met, the measures are still constitute to be big. He said the pickup in import growth was continuing on improving domestic consumption and investments.
