According to the financial comparison website and advisory company Bankmonitor, the analysis reviewed 36 standardized service packages, and Hungary ranked among the five most expensive countries in 17 categories, while recording the highest prices in 10 categories among the EU’s 27 member states.

Mobile packages drive Hungary’s high ranking, although fixed broadband services remain relatively inexpensive. Hungary is the most expensive EU country for all mobile packages that include at least 100 calls per month, equivalent to roughly 190 minutes of calling, compared with the EU average of 157 minutes per subscriber in 2024.

The study also found that Hungary has the highest price level in the EU for 10 GB mobile data plans and ranks second for 20 GB packages, while smaller 1-5 GB plans are closer to the middle of the EU range.

For all two-SIM packages designed for two-person households, Hungary again ranked as the most expensive market, placing it in the same highest-cost group as Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Latvia. Since 2022, Hungary has held the EU’s highest-cost position for mobile packages aimed at heavy callers, after ranking second in 2019.
