The agreements were signed in Bastrop, Texas, by Gellért Jászai, chairman and CEO of 4iG Group, and Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX.

Under the partnership, 4iG Group plans to launch first-generation Starlink Mobile commercial services, followed later by Starlink Mobile V2 technology using SpaceX’s global 2 GHz spectrum rights and enabling 5G non-terrestrial network capabilities.

Starlink Mobile is intended to complement 4iG Group’s terrestrial telecommunications networks in Hungary and the Western Balkans, particularly in areas with limited or no conventional mobile coverage. The service is also designed to maintain connectivity during emergencies and temporary network outages.

The companies will also cooperate on Sovereign Solutions, a satellite communications service aimed at providing secure networks for national security purposes.

“Today’s announcement underscores the importance of making connectivity ubiquitous for everyone. 4iG Group and SpaceX developed a first-of-its kind model that represents a commercial service with Starlink’s satellite-to-mobile technology and establishing the first Sovereign Solutions in Europe,” Jászai said.

“We are proud to be leading this vision in Europe and setting a new global standard of what’s possible,” he added.

Shotwell said 4iG Group’s adoption of Starlink Mobile, including the next-generation V2 constellation technology, would provide resilient direct-to-device connectivity across Hungary and the Western Balkans.

“V2 will enable high-speed broadband directly to mobile phones and harmonize the 2GHz spectrum we’ll use around the world. We’re thrilled to forge this relationship with 4iG Group, as it positions Hungary as an early adopter of Sovereign Solutions for Europe,” she said.

Starlink Mobile to Launch in Hungary and Albania

Starlink Mobile uses SpaceX’s low-Earth orbit satellite constellation to connect directly to LTE-compatible mobile phones without requiring dedicated satellite equipment.

4iG Group plans to launch the commercial service in Hungary and Albania, with the timing dependent on regulatory, technical and commercial conditions in each market.

The technology is intended to improve mobile coverage in areas where terrestrial networks are limited or unavailable, including mountainous regions and coastal waters.

4iG said the service could also provide connectivity during emergencies and temporary outages and support communications for public services and critical infrastructure.

A later rollout of Starlink Mobile V2 is planned for Hungary, Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia.

The next-generation technology will operate using SpaceX’s global 2 GHz priority spectrum rights and is intended to further integrate terrestrial and satellite mobile communications.

Secure Satellite Network Planned for 2027

Under the Sovereign Solutions agreement, 4iG S&D and SpaceX will develop an integrated service combining enhanced satellite communications with end-to-end secure data communications.

The service is scheduled to launch in 2027 and is expected to provide broadband connectivity together with secure sovereign network infrastructure.

The companies described the cooperation as a European first combining commercial satellite-to-mobile connectivity with sovereign satellite communications capabilities.
