Runner-up on the list, compiled using public records and information from Ceginfo.hu, is the investor Lőrinc Mészáros with assets of HUF 280 billion. Mészárosʼs wealth has more than doubled in a year as the holding companies he controls have beefed up their portfolios, according to state news agency MTI.
Ranked third is the estate of the recently deceased Sándor Demján. The construction industry leaderʼs heirs stand to inherit HUF 260 bln.
Fourth, with assets of HUF 240 bln, is György Gattyán, who has diversified his holdings after making a fortune in online adult content.
László Bige, active in the artificial fertilizer business, is in fifth place with assets of HUF 220 bln.
Last October, Forbes magazineʼs annual ranking of the richest Hungarians puts Csányiʼs wealth at HUF 294.3 bln. At that time, Demján ranked second with HUF 192 bln, while Gattyán was third with HUF 188.6 bln. Mészáros was still only eighth with HUF 105.7 bln, indicating the extraordinary speed at which the former gas fitterʼs wealth has mushroomed in recent times.
