Hankó noted that tenders for the funding would be called in the coming weeks.
On the basis of a recommendation by the National Scientific Policy Council, HUF 40 bln of the funding will be channelled to the National Research Excellency Program, he added.
He said the research funding would also be directed to international research, mission-oriented research and research with economic applications.
He added that a venture capital programme to support R&D&I would also be launched, while strategic cooperation agreements would be signed with partners in the Western Balkans, Central Asia and the Turkic region.
The funding for university researchers is part of HUF 460 bln earmarked for R&D&I in 2026.
The rest will go toward R&D&I at Hungarian companies.
Hankó said the HU-Rizont program, launched by the government after Brussels excluded Hungarian universities from the EU’s Horizon programme, would be continued in 2026 with an HUF 8 bln allocation.
