Hungary has moved to the next level in the 2023 edition of the European Innovation Scoreboard, the Culture and Innovation Ministry said on Monday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Hungary progressed to a higher performance group and became a "moderate innovator" in the latest EIS.

Hungary now ranks 21st in the area of innovation in the EU, the ministry said. The government aims to put the country among the top 10 innovators in Europe by 2030, it added.

The ministry pointed to the Neumann János Program which aims to foster stronger ties between universities and research institutions and economic players while transferring research results to social and economic improvements and maintaining a constant gauge of progress.

This year, HUF 80 billion has been earmarked to implement the first phase of the scheme, it added.
