Thanks to a new sponsor, the team will have an increased budget of several hundred million forints over the next four years, the report noted.

A ministry statement on Monday noted that Szijjártó said it was time for Budapest Honvéd to regain the position it deserved in Hungarian and international football, and for the team to be taken seriously once more.

Also, the Budapest Honvéd soccer academy would further build on its renown for training youngsters, “who will … receive the necessary professional training to find their place in adult football…” he added.

He said an investment programme worth four billion forints will be launched with government support, part of which would be the renovation and operation of the sports hall and the academy, as well as other developments to be implemented in the near future.
