Photon Aids Wolt Vienna With AI

New Projects

In collaboration with Photon, Wolt, the food delivery platform entered the Austrian market this year. Photon is responsible for taking photos of Viennese restaurants, utilizing automation and artificial intelligence (AI).

Photon, a Hungarian online platform connecting photographers and videographers with clients, has been photographing Wolt's menus in Hungary, and within just eight months, they have completed photoshoots for more than 200 restaurant menus.

"We knew that Photon was interested in expanding, so why not work together?" says Maša Kovač, Wolt's development lead, regarding the market expansion in Austria.

"We want to provide the best experience for our users, and that includes not only the app and customer service but also what they see. Therefore, our goal is to achieve 100% photo coverage for menus" says Maša. Photon is the easiest way for them to achieve full coverage since it relieves them of the burden of organization. "Our first project was on March 30th, and on the same day, we had five photoshoots. Within two months, we had over 100, tripling Hungary's shooting rate during the same timeframe," says Sára Volom, the founder of Photon.

"We're highly pleased with Photon's efficiency in Austria. Unlike other countries where we work directly with freelancers, requiring us to adapt to their availability and manually handle picture control and administration, Photon has simplified these tasks," says Kovač.

With Photon's integrated solution, they can schedule photoshoots and receive images within four days. Once the project is created by Wolt's managers, everything else is automated. Photon handles the training and management of photographers, ensuring quality, generating cost summaries, and handling invoicing, which means Wolt doesn’t have to worry about these aspects.

Backgrounds Created With AI

With just two clicks, Wolt can effortlessly book a shoot, thanks to the connection between the Photon platform and Wolt’s project management system. This API integration empowers restaurant managers to efficiently handle all aspects of restaurant onboarding from a single, centralized location.

Photon also utilizes artificial intelligence for editing. AI-powered image processing capabilities revolutionize the workflow by automating tasks like background removal, background insertion, and shading, resulting in professional-quality images. Thanks to this solution the editing time of one photo is just 3-4 seconds, significantly reducing the time and effort. Previously 30-60 minutes were required for post-processing.

An International Team

"They contacted us in late December 2022, with the goal of launching Wolt in Austria in May. We had a few months to set up - translate the website for photographers, determine pricing through market research, and establish a photography team on-site. It was an intensive process, and we focused all our resources on it," says Volom.

In the end, everything was set up in time, starting with a 10-person international team consisting of Hungarian, Peruvian, Ukrainian, German, and Austrian members.
