As Hungary’s first third-generation shopping mall, Duna Plaza has been a defining player in the country’s retail market for more than a quarter of a century.
The two-year redevelopment aims not only to preserve but to increase the mall’s market position, reshaping it as a contemporary, mixed-use center designed to meet the needs of future generations. After the renovation, the renewed building is expected to reopen in 2029.
The project will fully modernize both the retail areas and the office spaces connected to the complex, creating a cohesive unit with the shopping center. Plans call for Duna Plaza to move beyond its traditional commercial role and become a major community meeting point and experience hub for the area.
The redeveloped site will offer shopping, cultural programs, and entertainment in a modern environment. In addition to upgraded retail and office functions, the development places a strong emphasis on creating community spaces and green areas, providing an attractive and sustainable setting for visitors and tenants.
“Our goal with the renewal of Duna Plaza is to create a complex that honors its past while inspiring the future. We envisioned a shopping center that not only meets everyday retail needs but also strengthens community experiences and serves as an appealing destination for residents of both the capital and the surrounding metropolitan area,” said István Hüse, director of real estate development at Indotek Group.
“The project already has a building permit, and its financing is secured. Until construction begins in early 2027, we will focus on finalizing detailed interior design plans and concluding agreements with tenants. We are committed to this development, and we trust that in 2029 we will welcome our visitors, tenants, and partners to a complex that represents a higher level of quality than ever before,” he added.
