As part of the initiative, 50 community organizations worldwide will each receive USD 500,000 to develop solutions aimed at improving employment outcomes for low-income youth. The global program builds on Citi and Citi Foundation’s long-standing commitment to supporting young people and their economic futures.
JA Hungary, as part of a consortium led by JA Romania, will focus on developing and implementing programs that strengthen employability. Funded initiatives will include digital skills development — including artificial intelligence — technical and vocational training, workplace-based learning opportunities, and career guidance and mentoring tailored specifically to the needs of students in technical and vocational secondary schools.
These solutions are designed to help young people adapt to a rapidly changing economic environment and a transforming labor market.
“The creativity, openness and broad skill development of young people in Hungary are the forces that can turn future — often still unknown — labor market challenges into opportunities,” said Orsolya Gergely, managing director of the Junior Achievement Hungary Foundation. “The Building Retail Career Skills program further strengthens this potential, enabling young people to move forward with confidence, adaptability and competitiveness. We are grateful for the committed support of Citi Foundation and Citi, which makes this work possible.”
“Hungarian youth are exceptionally talented and versatile — something we at Citi have experienced firsthand during our four decades in Hungary and our long-standing partnership with JA Hungary,” said Munir Nanji, head of Central Europe at Citi. “We firmly believe that the Building Retail Career Skills program is critical, as it not only provides practical, marketable skills for immediate employability, but also develops key competencies that are valuable across sectors and essential for long-term success.”
Programs funded through the Global Innovation Challenge will be implemented over a two-year period. Beneficiary organizations will also gain access to a global community, enabling deeper collaboration and the sharing of experiences and best practices.
