Bulgarian industrial production growth quickens March

Bulgaria's industrial production growth accelerated in March, largely driven by strong output in the utility sector, provisional figures from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) showed on Tuesday.

Industrial production surged 19% year-on-year in March, following a 14.8% rise in February. Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply production grew markedly by 51.1% and output in manufacturing rose 13.3%.

Mining and quarrying sector registered a 19.4% growth in production. Monthly, industrial production rose 5.0% in March, well above previous month's 0.3% gain.

A separate report from the Sofia-based statistics institute showed that Bulgaria's construction output increased by 1.6% annually in March, following a 3.7% increase in February.

On a seasonally-adjusted monthly comparison basis, construction output continued to decline, inching down 0.4%, after falling by 0.7% in February.
