Austrian-owned Wienerberger laid the cornerstone of a HUF 12 bln concrete tile plant in Hejőpapi on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The plant is "ideally located" near one of Hungary's largest sources of sand and gravel, and close to two motorways, Jozsef Tarsoly, the managing director for Wienerberger's local business said.

Production at the plant, with an annual capacity of 30 million tiles, could start in September 2025. Around 70% of output will be exported to markets in Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Austria and Romania.

The plant is Wienerberger's third in Hungary which the company now treats as a manufacturing center, Tarsoly said.

Wienerberger CEO Heimo Scheuch and Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen also participated at the ceremony.
