The Hungarian Export-Import Bank (Eximbank) and the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus signed a $10 million purchasing-credit agreement in Budapest yesterday.

Under terms of the agreement, Eximbank will provide “preferential financing” to Belarusian importers of Hungarian product.

Foreign Trade State Secretary Péter Szijjártó, on hand to sign the agreement touted its potential to “provide the flow of Hungarian exports to Belarus with renewed momentum”; trading between the nations has yet to return to its peak of nearly $326 million set in 2008.

According to official statistics, trade between Hungary and Belarus rose 7% to $250 million in 2013.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
