As in the previous three years, Extreme Digital was again Hungaryʼs biggest online retailer last year, according to an annual ranking by market research firm GKI Digital.
The top ten online retail companies had combined sales of HUF 135 billion last year, with over 5.5 million online orders amounting to 37% of all online retail turnover, GKI Digital says, cited by business news portal hvg.hu.
According to the results, Hungarian-owned Extreme Digital topped the list in 2017, based on sales. Runner-up was Romanian-owned eMAG, followed by German-owned Media Markt.
The Tesco supermarket chain ranked 4th, climbing one position. GKI Digital notes that there is still huge potential in the online FMCG market, and companies like Tesco, Auchan, Rossmann and DM could yet radically change the online retail market in the near future.
Hungarian electronics vendors 220volt and iPon came in 5th and 6th place on the list, respectively, while Czech-owned web plaza mall.hu ranked 7th.
A new entry on the market in 2017 was another Czech-owned company, alza.hu, which managed to climb to 8th on the list in only four months of presence on the Hungarian market.
Making up the top ten were electronics seller Aqua in 9th, and book seller Libri-Bookline in 10th.
