Zombor: Structural reforms in healthcare will not result in layoffs
Under-secretary for healthcare Gábor Zombor denied rumors that according to government calculations, the planned structural reforms of the national healthcare system would result in the loss of 8,000-10,000 jobs within the sector, as was revealed during an interview with state-owned radio station yesterday.
The government is looking for ways to reduce hospital debt and they are currently in talks with hospital managers regarding structural reforms but there are no concrete plans as of yet, Zombor told Kossuth Rádió’s 180 perc program.
Népszabadság online reported on Saturday that there is a budget deficit of at least 20% in public healthcare services and the government intends to eliminate redundancies and unnecessary services. According to the newspaper, hospitals have no choice but to lay off a part of their workforce in order to stabilize their loss-making operations.
