Hungary expects the ministers to reject the European Commission’s proposal to lift its ban on GM crops, just as they did for a proposal by the Commission to lift a similar ban in place in Austria, Kovács said.
If the ministers fail to support the ban with a two-thirds majority, it must be lifted within 20 days, he added. Even if the ban is lifted, few farmers are expected to grow GM crops, because of the severe restrictions Hungary has introduced on raising them. (Bloomberg)
