Following a European Commission report on protecting children who use mobile phones, the companies said they’ll help to control adult content, raise awareness for parents and children, classify advertising content according to national decency standards and fight illegal content. „I congratulate the mobile phone industry for moving towards protecting minors,” Telecommunications Commissioner Viviane Reding said in a statement today. „It shows that responsible self-regulation can work at a European level.” The companies, which include content providers, agreed to develop a code by February 2008. The commission, the European Union’s executive arm, said it will monitor the measures. (Bloomberg)
