On Tuesday, Máté Kocsis, the Fidesz parliamentary group leader, asked Energy Affairs Minister Csaba Lantos to derogate from a European Union directive, in force from the start of next year, requiring solar prosumers to account separately for the amount of energy produced and the amount of energy consumed, rather than balancing the energy produced with that consumed.

Kocsis argued that it was "unfair" to change the rules for households that had been saving around HUF 20,000 a month, on average, on their energy bills and suggested the present settlement system remain in place at least for Hungarians who have already installed solar panels.
