Its Starray EM-i accounted for 61% of inquiries across the 10 most sought-after models from the new arrivals.
The 10 models received a combined 1,650 inquiries. Although BAIC and NIO had considerably fewer listings, they attracted more inquiries per advertised vehicle.
The Geely Starray EM-i ranked first with approximately 1,000 inquiries, followed by the brand’s E5. Geely’s three models together accounted for 76% of inquiries and 89% of listings among the top 10, with 236 advertisements.
BAIC had three models in the ranking, while NIO accounted for four, including its Firefly brand. NIO and Firefly officially launched in Hungary in January, followed by Geely in March and BAIC in April.
“Geely’s results show that a new brand can quickly find buyers if it offers extensive equipment at a relatively competitive price. Many Chinese manufacturers build their market entry strategy around this approach. At the same time, buyers remain primarily interested in hybrid and conventionally powered models,” said Dániel Lőcsei, brand manager at Használtautó.hu.
Geely and BAIC vehicles listed on the portal were almost exclusively new, with an average age of zero years and mileage generally ranging from zero to 860 kilometers. The exception was the BAIC X55, with an average age of 1.5 years and mileage of 17,210 kilometers.
NIO listings presented a different picture. Advertised ET7 models averaged 3.4 years old and 93,400 kilometers. These older vehicles likely reached Hungary through private imports before the brands’ official market entry, according to the portal.
Average asking prices ranged from HUF 8.8 mln to HUF 26.7 mln. The Geely E2 was the most affordable at HUF 8.8 mln, followed by the BAIC X55 at HUF 9 mln. The NIO EL6 was the most expensive at HUF 26.7 mln.
The NIO ET7 had an average asking price of HUF 12.3 mln and a median of HUF 9.3 mln, with older, higher-mileage vehicles making it considerably cheaper than the brand’s newer models.
The models span several powertrain types: the Starray EM-i is a plug-in hybrid, the X55 is gasoline-powered, and Geely’s E models and NIO vehicles are fully electric.
“With a new brand, buyers consider not just the car but the brand’s future: whether parts and servicing will be available, and what the vehicle will be worth in a few years. The interest attracted by the relatively few BAIC and NIO listings shows that curiosity is already there; trust will be built over the coming years,” Lőcsei added.
