The U.S. President is due to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office today, and Trump said the pair would discuss the phone call. “High level advisors” from America and Russia will meet next week, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubino, at an as-yet undetermined location, Trump said in his post.

“President Putin and I will then meet in an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can bring this ‘inglorious’ War, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end,” the BBC quoted Trump as writing in his post.

Later in the evening, Victor Orbán wrote in a post on X that he had “just got off the phone” with Trump and that “preparations for the USA-Russia peace summit are underway. Hungary is the island of PEACE.”

Meanwhile, Euronews reported that Zelenskyy has been pressing Trump to sell Kyiv Tomahawk missiles that would allow Ukraine to target deeper into Russian territory, arguing such strikes would compel Putin to take calls for direct negotiations to end the war more seriously.

Trump had told reporters traveling with him to Israel on Sunday that he had planned to discuss Tomahawks with Putin as a way to pressure him to end the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
