Following talks with Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanár, Szijjártó criticized the plan put forward by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, arguing that it would significantly increase utility costs and undermine energy stability in the region.
He noted that, due to historical infrastructure development, some Central European countries remain dependent on Russian oil and gas for secure supply.
“We are not willing to allow Hungarians to pay the price of the von der Leyen-Zelensky Plan. We are not willing to allow Brussels to make Hungarian families pay the price of further support for Kyiv,” he said.
Szijjártó added that Hungary and Slovakia would formally prote st the proposal at an upcoming meeting of EU foreign ministers.
