Kids Charity Party Raises Almost HUF 5 mln

The annual Fireworks Night charity fund raising party put on by expat community portal looks likely to have raised HUF 4.5 million for Hungarian children in need, though the organizer is still hopeful of drumming up a little more financial support.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their support in making the Xpat charity event a success again,” XpatLoop founder Stephen Linfitt told the Budapest Business Journal.

The money raised on October 27 will be split between three charities. UNICEF Hungary works to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. The Magic Lamp Wish Granting Foundation, also known by its Hungarian name of Csodalámpa, helps children aged 3-18 suffering from life-threatening illnesses. The Young People in Need (Rászoruló Fiatalok) non-profit organization focuses on solutions to emotional abuse of Hungarian children up to the age of 18, and also supports other local charities helping children in need.

The party also serves as the portal’s birthday party, with XpatLoop celebrating its 18th anniversary this year.

Granting Wishes

Gábor Patzauer, founder and president of Csodalámpa, said: “It was a great honor again, for the sixth time, that our Magic Lamp Foundation was chosen as a beneficiary of the Xpat charity party. [.…] I would like to thank and its readers, special guests and performers for their support of Magic Lamp’s mission to grant wishes for children suffering from a life endangering illness.”

Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Hans Peterson, with this year’s live auction – always a major contributor to the funds raised on the night, being run by celebrity chef Marvin Gauci, the owner of the Caviar & Bull restaurant, who had flown in especially for the event from Malta.
