Aiming to save galgos (a Spanish greyhound breed commonly used for hunting) in Spain from uncertain fate, the Hungarian Galgo Rescue Team embarked on a mission to find and bring home two dogs, which may be adopted in Hungary later on, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.

The transportation of the greyhounds, along with neutering, rehabilitation, and feeding the animals, imposes a serious financial burden on the team, which is constantly on the look for sponsors. With Dutch airline KLM already supporting their cause, a Hungarian PR agency has also decided to back the team.

"Upon hearing about the opportunity of helping galgos get to Hungary, the directors did not hesitate much," says the head of Socialize Kft. "We regularly support rescue centers and we are familiar with the situation of Spanish greyhounds, so weʼre glad to join the rescue; itʼs almost as if these two animals belonged to all of us."

The current tripʼs aim, apart from bringing the dogs home, is to create a protocol with a Spanish partner organization in order to facilitate finding a Hungarian family for the dogs rescued in Spain. Furthermore, the Hungarian Galgo Rescue Team also wants to help as an intermediary and post-care provider for the Hungarian adopters

The team is on the road already, and are expected to return to Hungary on Saturday, September 15.

The organization is also seeking to honor Bernadette Karádi, a member who died in April, attributing the work behind the current mission to save two dogs to her efforts.
