Skanska Hungary HQ wins German interior design award

Skanska Hungary, which describes itself as being part of one of the leading development and construction companies in Europe, says its flagship Nordic Light office project has been awarded in the Excellent Architecture: Interior Architecture category at the German Design Award 2020.

The concept for the interior design of the headquarters was provided by LAB5, the Budapest-based contemporary interior design and architecture studio. Collaboration between Skanska and LAB5 had previously been recognized at the regional award founded by the Center for Creative Economy of Southeast Europe, the Big SEE Interior Design Award 2018.
The main focus of the new design is Skanska’s vision of a green and futureproof office environment. The implementation of this is most noticeable in the partition walls that divide in the space, which use biophilic design such as living trees.
“Skanska’s Budapest HQ is among a new generation of offices including several types of working zones, such as quiet areas and collaboration spaces, to accommodate the different activities. The areas were designed to maximize natural light and bring green, living nature into the office to support our colleagues in feeling relaxed and more focused,” stated András Ábrahám, project manager for Skanska Hungary.
The jury of the German Design Award 2020 said it appreciated the focus on naturalness, the integration of plants and trees as room dividers, as well as relaxing islands as a great sustainable idea for the office.
“Our award-winning Budapest office reflects who we are, a company aiming to be at the forefront of creating futureproof workplaces with wellbeing, sustainability and innovation at the heart,” said Alexandra Tomášková, executive vice president of operations for Hungary and the Czech Republic.
