Szijjártó: Hungary considers Montenegro an ally

Hungary considers Montenegro an ally, as the soldiers of the two countries serve together in Afghanistan and Montenegro plays a key role in providing safety in the region, Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó said late yesterday in the Montenegrin city of  Bar during a NATO meeting, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that Szijjártó joined the Croatian, Polish and Romanian foreign ministers in promoting Montenegro’s joining of the NATO.

According to Szijjártó “there is no question that Montenegro deserves to be a NATO member”. Szijjártó said that Montenegro should receive an invitation to the NATO by December 2015, unless the credibility of NATO members will in some way be compromised by the action.

Montenegro’s NATO membership “is more important than ever”, as Europe has not faced challenges like it is now since WWII., Szijjártó added.
