Report: Fence could be ineffective

Whether there is a fence on the Hungarian border or not, those who arrive to Hungary and say that they are willing to hand in a refugee application need to be let into the country, and an official procedure must be launched, Gábor Gyulai, leader of the refugee program at Helsinki Committee told Hungarian online daily index.hu.

“It does not matter whether someone has an official document or not; it does not matter what language they use to hand in a refugee application. If a refugee climbs onto the fence and says they are willing to hand in a refugee application, Hungary is bound by international laws to let the refugee in and start a procedure,” Gyulai said.

Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó yesterday announced that the Hungarian government had instructed interior minister Sándor Pintér to start preparations for erecting a fence along the entire length of the Hungarian-Serbian border in order to combat the influx of immigrants into Hungary.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
Newspaper organizations across the globe have struggled to find a business model that allows them to continue to excel, without compromising their ability to perform. Most recently, some have experimented with the idea of involving their most important stakeholders, their readers.
We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
