Szonda Ipsos poll shows Fidesz maintains strong lead

Party Popularity

Support for Hungary’s parties remained unchanged in August compared to July, with ruling Fidesz leading the polls with 24% support from all voters, followed by the main opposition Socialists with 13%, reports Politics.hu quoting Ipsos.

Among voters with clear party preferences, support for Fidesz was twice as high as support for the Socialists, the poll said.

Trends reported during earlier in the summer stopped in August: support for Fidesz did not drop and support for the Socialists did not increase, Ipsos said.

Support for the radical nationalist Jobbik was 7% among all voters, representing nearly 600,000 people and support for the green party Politics Can Be Different (LMP) stood at 3% or 250,000 people.

At the same time, some four million people or half of all voters said they felt distant from parties.

Fidesz leads among all social groups, but its largest lead of the Socialists, four-fold, is among young voters, the poll said.

The poll was carried out among 1,500 people interviewed between August 21 and 28.
