According to Lázár, an “intentional and conscious boycott” was behind the failure to complete interconnectors between the gas networks of Romania and Croatia and that of Hungary. Lázár added that he wished Hungaryʼs disputes with Brussels would be of a more economic nature in the future, citing questions of competition, illegal state support and non-discrimination.
Zsolt Hernádi, CEO of oil and gas company MOL, has been accused of bribing former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in order to acquire management rights in Croatian energy company INA. Although Hernádi was cleared of the charges in Hungary, the Croatian government has urged a trial in Croatia concerning the case.
It was reported in February that International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), once again, listed MOL CEO Zsolt Hernádi on its most wanted persons list after Croatian police issued a warrant for his arrest in the autumn of 2013 on suspicion of bribing Sanader.
