Eurobarometer results echo this trend, indicating that 80% of Hungarians back euro adoption, up five percentage points from 2025 and sharply higher than the 57% recorded in 2016.
Only 23% of the population opposes the shift, with resistance more common among older, rural, and less-educated groups.
The Eurobarometer survey also finds that 39% of Hungarians would switch currencies as soon as possible, 45% prefer a set timetable, and just 7% would never adopt the euro, far below the one‑third opposition seen in Poland and the Czech Republic.
Expectations have shifted significantly. While 54% now view euro adoption within five years as realistic, only 22% believe the country is currently prepared for accession.
