Orbán appoints Rogán as Political Cabinet Chief

History

Antal Rogán, who is currently the caucus leader of the governing Fidesz party, will become Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Political Cabinet Chief as of October 1, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.

Rogán reportedly announced the appointment yesterday at a press conference. The position was newly created, according to MTI. It is not yet clear how this appointment will affect Cabinet Chief János Lázár, who heads the Prime Ministerʼs Office, which operates as a ministry.

Orbán is expected to propose a replacement for Rogán at a meeting of Fidesz MPs in Velence, central Hungary that began yesterday.
