The Hungarian government has elected to change the management of the Paks nuclear power plant, cabinet chief János Lázár said in Parliament yesterday in response to a query from Jobbik’s Lajos Kepli, online business news portal napi.hu reported today.

The new chief executive is of German nationality and has managed several power plants with similar technological infrastructures, and is expected to take over the position as soon as possible.

According to the minister, the aim is to increase the efficiency, security and transparency of the operation of Hungary’s sole nuclear power plant. Paks II, which is being upgraded with two additional blocks, “will be operated by Paks I”, napi.hu added.

The bulk of the project is being financed by Russia’s Rosatom through a €10 bln line of credit.
